Changes in the Highway Code in the Czech Republic
On 31st January 2006 the Czech Minister of Transport Mr Milan Simonovsky and Director of the Czech Traffic Police Col. Zdenek Bambas have launched a national wide campaign on changes of the Czech Highway Code.
- introduction of penalty point system,
- mandatory day time running lights during whole year, stricter penalties for traffic offences (up to 50 000 CZK),
- mandatory wearing of cycle helmets for cyclists up to 18 years,
- mandatory child restraint devices on all types of roads,
- possibility of the Czech Police Force to preliminary withdraw a driving licence on the spot in case of committing serious traffic offence,
- The Czech Police Force has the right in case of committing serious offence to prevent continuing in driving by using technical devices,
- The Czech Police Force has a right in selected cases to ask driver who committed an offence for a caution,
- driving under influence of alcohol and drugs is taken as a criminal offence,
- when leaving a roundabout driver should use a signalisation to show a change of direction,
- in case of overtaking a cyclist a driver is obliged to use a signalisation to show a change of direction,
- driver of a lorry of mass weight exceeding 3.5 t and a driver of articulated vehicle of total length exceeding 7 m is not allowed to overtake other vehicle in case if he has not a sufficient speed not to restrict other vehicles by its slow speed.
