Start of Pilot Activities in Baja
The WANDA project, in which the Institute for Transport Sciences (KTI) is a project partner, has reached a significant milestone: As a pilot action of the transnational project to coordinate the collection and disposal of ship borne waste, the first green terminal along the Danube has been opened at the National Public Port of Baja on 18 May 2011.
In the National Public Port of Baja, Hungary a modern waste logistics center has been opened on May, 18th. Amongst the numerous officials also representatives of the Hungarian Ministry of National Development, the Ministry of Rural Development and the Institute for Transport Sciences participated in the meeting and emphasised the importance of modern ship waste management in their opening speeches.
With the opening of this first "Green Terminal" in Hungary, the pilot activities which will be implemented during the WANDA project have officially been started. Besides oily and greasy ship wastes also residuals, recyclables as well as other hazardous ship wastes (batteries, paints, resolvents, etc.) can be disposed in this facility. The services will be free of charge for vessels for a certain time period in 2011.
