Our measuring equipment
Generally, our intention is to measure and analyse the quality criteria of the flow of traffic; to date, Hungary has had very little experience in this field. A good example of this could be the level of services, or the in-depth analysis of traffic safety, or the measuring of speeds. We place great emphasis on getting to know typical speeds, to get a complete picture of the effect and efficiency of traffic engineering projects and equipment. Knowledge of habits in the choice of speeds is one of the profession's blank areas, as the data available are mainly from one-off measurements or are incomplete.
These are the most commonly examined items and subjects in the course of our work:
-
The capacity of intersections
-
Time lost/vehicle delays at intersections
-
Traffic conflicts
-
Habits in the choice of speeds
-
Behaviour of vehicle drivers
-
Accident black spots
-
Economic efficiency of traffic engineering interventions
Naturally there is bias in the choice of themes listed: this is because we want people to realise that we are striving to examine the road-vehicle-man relationship. The resources used in the course of the measurements are:
-
Traffic engineering measuring vehicle
-
FÁMALASER II laser speed and distance gauge
-
MUVITAS
-
VIVATRAFFIC image processing programme
-
Video camera
-
Video camera-elevating column (using the elevating device we can raise one, or where necessary, two remote-controlled video cameras to a height of 14.5 m.)
-
Traffic engineering elevating software
