Directorate for Strategy, Research and Development (R&D) and Innovation

The Directorate is responsible for research, development and coordination tasks, as defined by the relevant national legislation, which concern road safety and environmental impacts on the one hand, and the transport system as a whole, i.e. rail, road, water and air transport on the other. In particular, research and development tasks relating to rail infrastructure and research and coordination activities relating to unmanned aerial vehicles are among the most important.

The Directorate manages the scientific research activities of the departments under its responsibility and ensures that KTI’s strategic, R&D and innovation activities are performed in accordance with the requirements.

It also monitors other scientific work in the field, develops cooperation between public, scientific, market and civil actors in the sector, and supports the line ministry’s strategic, legislative, governance and regulatory functions at national and international level.

The Directorate is also involved in raising public awareness, developing transport culture and contributing to the process of safe transport education.
