About Us

The Coordination Centre is responsible for the coordination of research and development activities for rail, road, waterborne and air transport modes, covering the whole transport system. It also provides strategic support for the tasks of the Ministry, in particular strategic, legislative, regulatory, management and administrative tasks, coordination of related research, studies, impact assessments, codification, guidelines, methodologies, concepts and requirements for the development of the transport system, vehicle certification and related administrative tasks.

Our activities

  • Preparatory decision-making for the strategic, legislative and regulatory tasks of the Ministry of Transport
  • project-based involvement of the various research areas in the strategic, legislative and regulatory tasks of the Ministry of Transport
  • supporting the professional coordination of research, surveys, data collection, transport economic studies, feasibility studies, transport economic studies covering the whole transport system, covering rail, road, waterborne and air transport modes, carried out by the departments of the Directorate for Strategy, Research and Development and Innovation
  • support for qualitative follow-up studies on the results of research
  • carrying out studies, data collection and research relating to the development of public awareness of the transport system
  • ensuring participation and coordination in EU and UNECE committees and other international professional organisations (e.g. ECTRI, FERSI, IRTAD, CITA, ERTICO, ETSC, etc.), with the involvement of the research centres of the Directorate for Strategy, Research and Development and Innovation, in order to ensure the proper professional representation of the Hungarian position and interests
  • Searching for international and national tenders, managing and preparing tender materials
  • Contributing to the organisation of professional events, programmes, training courses and conferences related to the work of the units of the Directorate for Strategy, Research and Development and Innovation

Quarterly monitoring of transport issues

In transport (including passenger and freight transport), there are a number of trends that are radically transforming the industry. The future of passenger transport is influenced by innovations such as automation or transport solutions based on a sharing economy model. The specificity of passenger transport is that its prospects are also significantly shaped by changing consumer preferences, making it a key task for social science research to continuously analyse changes in transport. The following research project aims to explore social attitudes towards the development of passenger transport and innovative transport solutions. Within this theme, particular emphasis would be given to analysing sustainability issues of transport innovations (e.g. self-driving vehicles, shared mobility, current transport development plans) and the factors influencing the transformation of transport culture. The research would allow for a regular quarterly monitoring of societal trends in transport through a recurrent questionnaire survey. In addition to the key themes, a block of questions would focus on current phenomena, i.e. on transport issues that are of public concern in a given quarter (e.g. airline cancellations, regulatory issues following transport accident tragedies, trust in innovations, transport institutions, etc.). The research results are thus expected to provide a comprehensive picture of changes in the social perception of emerging transport innovations and the impact of current phenomena on passenger transport behaviour.
