The current framework for organising scientific activities at KTI was established in 2019-2020, taking into account the practices of academic, higher education, and industry research institutes, and resulted in the creation of the Scientific Council (KTI-TT). The core activities of this body include making proposals, expressing opinions and preparing decisions for the executive director on scientific matters. As part of this, the KTI-TT undertakes the following activities:

• Scientific Qualification: it is responsible for the initial and requalification of interested employees in accordance with domestic practice (junior scientific researcher fellow, scientific researcher, senior scientific researcher, scientific advisor, research professor).
• Mentoring: it monitors, assists, and verifies the fulfilment of scientific requirements and the application of incentives, and its members also mentor PhD students.
• Support for the management: through its secretary, it provides continuous support to the management on scientific matters, such as mandatory and ad-hoc data provision, facilitating project applications, and representing the organisation at domestic and international levels.
• Administration: through its secretary, it operates a ’customer service’ for researchers, offering information and advice on scientific matters, supporting qualification applications, and handling individual applications (e.g., scholarships).
• Awards: KTI-TT nominates candidates for the Researcher of the Year and Young Researcher of the Year awards, involving the entire research community of KTI in the nomination process.

The KTI-TT organises the following events:

• KTI Scientific Conference: held in November of each year, when the Celebration of Hungarian Science takes place, this event is featuring presentations by KTI researchers (2020: 12 presentations, 2021: 18, 2022: 10, 2023: 13).
• Researcher Club: workshops aimed at discussing the PhD research of doctoral students working at KTI, providing support for their research, particularly in the early stages or before the pre-defence, and covering other topics of interest to the research community (e.g., scientific publication writing, operation of the MTMT system), and presentations by guest lecturers.
